About Us

John Kelly

BA FCA Dip PFS
Chartered Accountant Partner

I look after our Inheritance Tax and investment clients. As well as being a diploma qualified finance planner, I am also a chartered accountant, one of a handful of such dual-qualified individuals in the country.

I graduated in economics at Manchester University in 1981, and then went on to qualify with leading accountants Stoy Hayward.

In 1987, I set up my own firm and spent 15 years advising clients on tax affairs. During this time, I realised that there was a gap in the market for ethically-delivered financial advice rather than commission-driven product sales, and so I set up Square One Financial Planning LLP in 2003.

I am the author of the Inheritance Tax guide “Keeping the Taxman Out of Your Home”. The purpose of this book is to help people understand IHT without having to seek expensive advice. It explains what is going on clearly and without technical language.

I am committed to providing top quality advice, in plain English, at a fair price.

I live in East Sussex and enjoy sailing, hill walking and astronomy.

Andrew Melbourne

Chartered Financial Planner
Partner

I specialise in retirement planning for individuals and corporate advice, including end of financial year tax planning and employee benefit implementation for our clients.

Having joined the financial services industry in 1998, I became a diploma qualified finance planner in 2003. I am now one of the few Chartered Financial Planners in Sussex. This top level qualification was introduced into our profession in 2006 and only around 1 in 100 advisers has attained this accreditation to date. As well as passing exams, Chartered Financial Planners commit to a strict code of ethics.

My aim is to help people understand their choices so they make an informed decision that best suits their current situation. This helps clients achieve their ambitions. I also head the firm’s investment committee to ensure that we maintain a suitable and consistent approach to clients finances.

I am married, with two children; and live on the South Coast. I enjoy many sports, mainly a a spectator these days, including hockey, golf and football.

Iain Cornfield

BSc(Hons) CertCII CeMAP
Financial Planner

I graduated from Lancaster University in 1988 majoring in Economics and have been a financial advisor since 1992.

Since then I have built up a wide experience in all areas of financial planning which enables me to give high quality holistic advice.

I joined the firm because I was impressed by the partners’ highly ethical stance and the range of legal and accounting facilities available to enhance the advice for clients.

I am married with two young children, live in Horsham and am a keen cricketer. I also play a little golf and sail when I get the chance.

Kevin Bruce DipPFS

Financial Planner

I can advise across a wide range of planning issues, although my specialist areas include pre and post retirement planning, savings and investments and IHT mitigation/estate
planning.

My 20 years experience in financial services include advice, management and compliance roles within major building Society and insurance institutions. After working as a Private Client Manager for the investment arm of a major bank, in 2003 I went on to enjoy over 6 years as a Financial Planning Consultant with a national IFA/ Wealth Management organisation. During this time I have seen a good number of economic cycles both good and bad and I am well aware that there are times when investments can go down as well as up!

For much of this time I have provided personal advice directly to private clients, the self employed and to the Directors of smaller ltd companies.

I have also enjoyed working closely alongside a number of accountants and solicitors in order to provide bespoke investment and tax planning solutions for mutual clients.

As a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute and Personal Finance Society, I was one of the earliest advisers to achieve the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate in 2003, involving higher level qualifications in investment planning, taxation and trusts, and the specialist G60 qualification in pensions advice and pension transfers.

I am passionate about providing truly independent advice to my clients, whilst providing a high level of personal service.

I have lived in Eastbourne for over 30 years but have existing clients far and wide across London, the South East and beyond. I am married with two young children of school
age. In between a very busy working and family life I enjoy outdoor pursuits including hill walking, skiing and mountain biking.
